Volunteer Spotlight: Jenny McAtee
This month, we’re celebrating the amazing Jenny McAtee, a devoted volunteer who always goes above and beyond for her clients. Jenny understands the caregiver’s journey firsthand—she was a caregiver for her husband, a lymphoma survivor, and now she gives back by supporting others walking the same path.
Originally from Montgomery Village, MD, Jenny now lives in Houston, where she manages a real estate development’s website, projects, and administrative work. When she’s not working or volunteering, she loves being outdoors, walking for both fitness and fun. Living in a bird sanctuary with a pond in her backyard, she feels lucky to be surrounded by nature’s beauty.
Jenny first discovered CanCare during one of her husband’s extended hospital stays, when he began looking forward to visits from a CanCare volunteer. After learning that CanCare also supported caregivers, she made the call that changed everything. “I knew I needed help but didn't know where to get it. It was such a welcome relief to reach out to someone who understood what I was feeling.”
One of the greatest gifts cancer gave Jenny was realizing just how amazing her daughters had become. During their family's cancer journey, her daughters stepped up in every way possible, offering unwavering love and support. "I knew they were ‘good stock’ before cancer, I just didn’t know how good! I am one lucky mom!"
Jenny, your heart for service and deep compassion inspires us all. Thank you for everything you do!
