January 2025 News from CanCare

Dear CanCare Family,

As we welcome the New Year, we reflect with deep gratitude on the year behind us and look ahead with hope for what’s to come. A new year brings renewed purpose, fresh possibilities, and the opportunity to continue strengthening the compassionate community we share.

In 2025, we were honored to support 11,641 individuals through our core programs, including one-on-one matching, healthcare facility visitation, and support groups. Each connection made, each visit shared, and each story heard is a powerful reminde rof why our mission matters—and of the incredible impact we can create together.

As we move into the year ahead, CanCare remains committed to ensuring that no one faces cancer alone. May this New Year bring hope, comfort, and moments of peace to you and your loved ones. Thank you for being part of this community of care and compassion.

With gratitude,

Darcie Champagne Wells

Ishwaria’s Story: Finding Hope in Advocacy and Action

“Your story has the power to spark change for millions ofothers with cancer.”

At CanCare, we are inspired by Ishwaria—CanCare Board Memberand a Medical Oncologist—whose life has been shaped by compassion and a deepunderstanding of the cancer journey.

Raised in a family of caregivers—a third-generationphysician and second-generation oncologist—Iswaria grew up seeing care inaction. Some of her earliest memories are of sitting in an infusion center, doing homework while patients received treatment. Those moments quietly shapedher calling and instilled a lifelong commitment to walking alongside thoseaffected by cancer.

Through years of listening to patients and caregivers,Ishwaria has witnessed how cancer changes everyday life—not just physically, but emotionally. She believes care should lighten the burden, allowing patientsand families to focus on healing and quality of life.

Ishwaria’s story also reflects a core CanCare belief: everyvoice matters. By sharing lived experiences, patients and caregivers can sparkawareness, inspire action, and help create a more compassionate future forcancer care.

For a deeper dive into Ishwaria's life-shaping calling, weinvite you to read her full story in Hope in the Face of Cancer.
