CanCare first became a part of Donna’s life when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. One of Donna’s first calls was to CanCare, where she found a loving and caring friend in CanCare volunteer, Leslie. Donna says, “In talking to Leslie, I realized I was not alone in this fight!”

After completing her treatment in 2001, Donna herself became a CanCare volunteer. Donna found that “by sharing my experience with other newly diagnosed women with breast cancer, I was able to instill Hope in the future for myself and others.”

Donna notes that sometimes in your cancer journey, you face an internal pressure to stay positive, but with your CanCare volunteer, that pressure disappears, and you find a real authenticity you can’t find anywhere else.

Over the last 26 years, Donna has been a critical partner of CanCare, serving on our board, chairing our Survivorship Luncheon, and generously providing support to fund our mission.

One thing I wish everyone knew about CanCare... “That it works. There is nothing like having a commonality with a person that you can be yourself with. They don’t need something from you. This person you’re instantly bonded to. It’s intimate and your inner most fears and joys.”
