I had been fighting pancreatic cancer since 2014 and I decided to begin volunteering because I wanted to help others in need of support. In giving my time and support to others, it also helped me. As I reached out to each client and listened to their concerns and difficulties, I found I was very much like them in the beginning and could relate to them better.

I supported a client who went from finding out she had cancer to cancer-free after her treatments. Such a wonderful feeling of success that we had gone through together.

To anyone thinking about seeking support from CanCare… If you can connect with a volunteer and open your heart, you will share a great bond and make the journey together.

My words to pass along to anyone facing cancer… Have unshakeable hope. I found my cancer made my mind and body stronger. I learned how to be an advocate for myself. I am still on the cancer journey, but I’m not giving up.
